Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji efikasi herbisida paraquat (Gramoxone) terhadap gulma pada perkebunan kelapa sawit swadaya di Kelurahan Langga Payung, Kecamatan Sungai Kanan, Kabupaten Labuhanbatu Selatan. Gulma merupakan salah satu faktor pembatas produktivitas kelapa sawit karena menimbulkan kompetisi dalam penyerapan hara, air, dan cahaya, serta berpotensi menjadi inang hama dan penyakit. Paraquat sebagai herbisida kontak diketahui efektif terhadap gulma berdaun lebar dan rumput-rumputan, namun penggunaannya di perkebunan swadaya sering tidak terstandar sehingga menimbulkan risiko lingkungan dan kesehatan.Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen lapangan dengan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) yang terdiri atas empat perlakuan dosis herbisida paraquat dan tiga ulangan, sehingga terdapat 12 unit percobaan. Variabel yang diamati meliputi persentase kematian gulma, lama waktu kematian, serta jenis gulma yang paling responsif terhadap aplikasi herbisida. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa aplikasi paraquat dengan dosis tertentu mampu menekan pertumbuhan gulma dominan seperti Imperata cylindrica, Ageratum conyzoides, dan Cyperus rotundus secara signifikan. Efikasi tertinggi diperoleh pada konsentrasi 1 liter herbisida per 100 liter air, dengan gejala nekrosis muncul dalam 24–48 jam setelah aplikasi. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah bahwa herbisida paraquat efektif digunakan untuk pengendalian gulma di perkebunan kelapa sawit swadaya, namun perlu penerapan dosis yang tepat agar efisiensi tercapai tanpa menimbulkan dampak negatif terhadap lingkungan dan kesehatan petani. Hasil penelitian diharapkan dapat menjadi rekomendasi teknis bagi petani swadaya dalam pengelolaan gulma secara lebih efektif dan berkelanjutan. Kata Kunci: Kelapa Sawit, Gulma, Paraquat, Efikasi, Perkebunan Swadaya ================================================================================================ This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of paraquat herbicide (Gramoxone) against weeds in smallholder oil palm plantations in Langga Payung Village, Sungai Kanan District, Labuhanbatu Selatan Regency. Weeds are one of the main limiting factors in oil palm productivity due to competition for nutrients, water, and light, as well as serving as hosts for pests and diseases. Paraquat, a widely used contact herbicide, is known for its rapid action against broadleaf weeds and grasses. However, its application in smallholder plantations is often unstandardized, leading to environmental and health risks. The research employed a quantitative field experiment using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four dosage treatments of paraquat and three replications, resulting in 12 experimental units. Observed variables included weed mortality percentage, time to death, and weed species responsiveness. Results indicated that paraquat effectively suppressed dominant weeds such as Imperata cylindrica, Ageratum conyzoides, and Cyperus rotundus. The highest efficacy was achieved at a concentration of 1 liter herbicide per 100 liters of water, with necrosis symptoms appearing within 24–48 hours after application. The findings conclude that paraquat herbicide is effective for weed control in smallholder oil palm plantations, provided that proper dosage and application techniques are followed to minimize negative impacts on the environment and farmer health. This research is expected to provide practical recommendations for smallholder farmers to manage weeds more efficiently and sustainably.
