Abstract
His study aimed to evaluate the effect of mulch application using mesocarp fiber and oil palm empty fruit bunches (EFB) on the growth of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) seedlings at the main nursery stage. The research was conducted in Rantau Selatan District, Labuhanbatu Regency, North Sumatra, from January to March 2026, using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with one factor, namely mulch type, consisting of five treatments: M0 (control), M1 (EFB 85 g), M2 (mesocarp fiber 85 g), M3 (EFB 50 g + mesocarp fiber 35 g), and M4 (mesocarp fiber 50 g + EFB 35 g), with five replications resulting in 25 experimental units. The observed parameters included plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, and fresh root weight. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) followed by Tukey’s test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that mulch application influenced the growth of oil palm seedlings, although not all parameters were significantly affected. The combination treatment, particularly M4, tended to produce better growth performance, especially in stem diameter and plant height. The use of organic mulch derived from oil palm waste improved soil moisture retention, suppressed weed growth, and enhanced the physical properties of the growing media. In conclusion, mesocarp fiber and EFB have potential as organic mulch to support the growth of oil palm seedlings in the main nursery stage. Keywords : Oil Palm, Mesocarp Fiber, Empty Fruit Bunches, Mulch, Main Nursery ================================================================================================== Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh aplikasi mulsa menggunakan serat mesokarp dan tandan buah kosong (EFB) kelapa sawit terhadap pertumbuhan bibit kelapa sawit (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) pada tahap pembibitan utama. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Kecamatan Rantau Selatan, Kabupaten Labuhanbatu, Sumatera Utara, dari Januari hingga Maret 2026, menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RUPS) dengan satu faktor, yaitu jenis mulsa, yang terdiri dari lima perlakuan: M0 (kontrol), M1 (EFB 85 g), M2 (serat mesokarp 85 g), M3 (EFB 50 g + serat mesokarp 35 g), dan M4 (serat mesokarp 50 g + EFB 35 g), dengan lima ulangan sehingga menghasilkan 25 unit percobaan. Parameter yang diamati meliputi tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, diameter batang, dan berat akar segar. Data dianalisis menggunakan Analisis Varians (ANOVA) diikuti dengan uji Tukey pada tingkat signifikansi 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa aplikasi mulsa memengaruhi pertumbuhan bibit kelapa sawit, meskipun tidak semua parameter terpengaruh secara signifikan. Perlakuan kombinasi, khususnya M4, cenderung menghasilkan kinerja pertumbuhan yang lebih baik, terutama pada diameter batang dan tinggi tanaman. Penggunaan mulsa organik yang berasal dari limbah kelapa sawit meningkatkan retensi kelembaban tanah, menekan pertumbuhan gulma, dan meningkatkan sifat fisik media tanam. Kesimpulannya, serat mesokarp dan tandan buah kosong berpotensi sebagai mulsa organik untuk mendukung pertumbuhan bibit kelapa sawit pada tahap pembibitan utama.
