Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi jenis tumbuhan mangrove di pesisir Sei Sanggul serta menganalisis potensinya sebagai sumber belajar biologi. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat dua spesies mangrove, yaitu Sonneratia alba dan Sonneratia caseolaris. Kedua spesies memiliki ciri morfologi khas, terutama akar napas sebagai bentuk adaptasi terhadap lingkungan berlumpur dan miskin oksigen. Perbedaan utama terletak pada warna bunga, ukuran buah, serta habitat tumbuh. Sonneratia alba ditemukan pada daerah dengan salinitas tinggi, sedangkan Sonneratia caseolaris pada daerah estuari dengan salinitas lebih rendah. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa mangrove memiliki potensi tinggi sebagai sumber belajar kontekstual pada materi keanekaragaman hayati dan ekosistem. Pemanfaatannya mampu meningkatkan pemahaman konsep, keterampilan proses sains, serta kesadaran lingkungan siswa. Kata kunci : Mangrove, Sonneratia Alba, Sonneratia Caseolaris, Sumber Belajar, Biologi =================================================================================================== This study aims to identify mangrove plant species along the Sei Sanggul coast and analyze their potential as a biology learning resource. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using observation and documentation techniques. The results revealed two mangrove species: Sonneratia alba and Sonneratia caseolaris. Both species exhibit distinctive morphological characteristics, particularly aerial roots as an adaptation to muddy and low-oxygen environments. The main differences are found in flower color, fruit size, and habitat distribution. Sonneratia alba is commonly found in high-salinity coastal areas, while Sonneratia caseolaris grows in estuarine zones with lower salinity. The findings indicate that mangroves have strong potential as contextual learning resources, especially for biodiversity and ecosystem topics. Their utilization can enhance students’ conceptual understanding, scientific process skills, and environmental awareness through direct interaction with natural surroundings.
