Abstract

Tanah ultisol memiliki kemasaman dan kejenuhan Al yang tinggi, kandungan hara dan bahan organik rendah, dan tanah peka terhadap erosi.tanah ultisol mempunyai potensi yang besar untuk dikembangkan bagi perluasan lahan pertanian untuk tanaman pangan namun harus di imbangi dengan pengelolaan tanaman dan tanah yang tepat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik biologi tanah ultisol setelah diinkubasi dengan kompos limbah buah dan sayuran. Penelitian ini dilakukan di desa Kampung Bilah, Kecamatan Bilah Hilir, Kabupaten Labuhanbatu, Sumatra Utara. Analisis biologi tanah dilakukan di laboratorium biologi tanah Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Sumatera Utara. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) non Faktorial dengan dua ulangan yaitu P0 (Kontrol), P1 (1 kg tanah Ultisol + 500 gram kompos), dan P2 (1 kg tanah Ultisol + 1 kg kompos). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian kompos limbah buah dan sayuran pada tanah Ultisol dengan perlakuan P2 dapat meningkatkan total bakteri sebesar 10 × 105 cfu/ml dan respirasi CO2 sebesar 1,885 (mgCO2/ hari). Ultisol soil has great potential to be developed for the expansion of agricultural land for food crops but must be balanced with proper plant and soil management. This study aims to determine the biological characteristics of ultisols after incubation with fruit and vegetable waste compost. This research was conducted in Kampung Bilah Village, Bilah Hilir District, Labuhanbatu Regency, North Sumatra. Soil biological analysis was carried out in the soil biology laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra. This study used a non-factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with two replications, namely P0 (Control), P1 (1 kg of Ultisol + 500 grams of compost), and P2 (1 kg of Ultisol + 1 kg of compost). The results showed that applying fruit and vegetable waste compost to Ultisol soil with P2 treatments increased total bacteria by 10 × 105 cfu/ml and CO2 respiration by 1.885 (mgCO2/day).
