Abstract
The utilization of tea residue in agriculture has gained attention as a means to reduce waste and promote sustainable farming practices. This article aims to evaluate the potential of tea residue as an alternative growing medium for the growth of pakchoi plants (Brassica rapa subsp. chinensis). The study was conducted by collecting tea residue from various sources and using it as a growing medium to cultivate pakchoi seedlings. The results of the study indicate that tea residue possesses characteristics that make it an effective growing medium. Furthermore, pakchoi plants grown in tea residue demonstrated good growth in terms of plant height, leaf count, and fresh weight. Qualitative analysis revealed the presence of essential nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium in tea residue, which can support plant growth. Additionally, tea residue exhibited good water retention capacity, maintaining moisture in the growing medium, and enhancing air circulation. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that tea residue holds potential as an effective and sustainable growing medium for pakchoi plant growth. The use of tea residue in agriculture can also aid in waste reduction and improve agricultural environmental performance. Further research is warranted to explore the full potential and applications of tea residue in modern farming practices. Keywords: Tea residue, Growing medium, Pakchoi, Plant growth.
