Abstract

Permasalahan sampah merupakan isu lingkungan yang semakin kompleks seiring dengan meningkatnya jumlah penduduk dan rendahnya kesadaran masyarakat terhadap pengelolaan sampah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan smart trash bin berbasis NodeMCU ESP32 dan sensor ultrasonik dengan notifikasi real-time melalui aplikasi Telegram. Sistem ini dirancang untuk mendeteksi tingkat kepenuhan sampah secara otomatis, menampilkan informasi volume pada LCD, mengaktifkan buzzer sebagai alarm, serta mengirimkan notifikasi kepada pengguna ketika kapasitas sampah telah mencapai ambang batas 80%. Metodologi yang digunakan adalah pendekatan Research and Development (R&D) dengan model pengembangan ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). Perangkat keras yang digunakan meliputi NodeMCU ESP32, sensor ultrasonik HC-SR04, LCD 16x2 I2C, buzzer, dan motor servo, sementara perangkat lunak dikembangkan menggunakan Arduino IDE dengan integrasi library pendukung. Implementasi dilakukan dengan merangkai komponen, menyusun algoritma, serta melakukan pengujian pada kondisi nyata. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa sistem berhasil mendeteksi volume sampah secara akurat, memberikan peringatan melalui buzzer, menampilkan status kepenuhan pada LCD, serta mengirimkan notifikasi real-time ke Telegram. Sistem ini mampu meningkatkan efisiensi pemantauan dan pengelolaan sampah, sekaligus mendukung penerapan konsep smart environment dalam mewujudkan kota cerdas (smart city). This research aims to develop a smart trash bin system based on NodeMCU ESP32 and ultrasonic sensors with real-time notification through the Telegram application. The system is designed to automatically detect the level of waste, display the volume on an LCD, activate a buzzer as an alert, and send notifications to users when the waste volume reaches 80% of the bin’s capacity. The research employs a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The hardware components include NodeMCU ESP32, HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor, 16x2 I2C LCD, buzzer, and servo motor, while the software is developed using Arduino IDE with supporting libraries. The implementation stage covers hardware assembly, algorithm development, and system testing under real conditions. The experimental results show that the system successfully detects waste levels, triggers a buzzer alert, displays the fullness status on the LCD, and delivers real-time notifications via Telegram. This smart trash bin system enhances efficiency in monitoring and managing waste, supporting the implementation of smart environment concepts as part of building a smart city.
