Abstract

Effective weed control is necessary to reduce competition for nutrients, water, light, and growing space. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of glyphosate herbicide application in controlling the epiphytic weed Ficus sp. in oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) plantations at PTPN IV Berangir. The study was conducted using direct field observations of weed conditions before and after herbicide application. Parameters observed included the percentage of weed mortality, the level of weed damage, and changes in weed condition after application. The results showed that glyphosate herbicide application suppressed the growth of the epiphytic weed Ficus sp., as indicated by changes in leaf color, wilting, and even the death of weed tissue. Control effectiveness was influenced by the concentration and accuracy of application, weed condition, and environmental conditions at the time of spraying. Therefore, the use of glyphosate herbicide can be an alternative method for controlling the epiphytic weed Ficus sp. in oil palm plantations when applied at the correct dosage and technique.
