Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of implementing the Project Based Learning (PjBL) learning model on students' learning outcomes regarding cell material in Class VIII of SMP Negeri 3 Rantau Utara. The low learning outcomes of students in Science subjects, particularly on cell material, served as the background for this research. The PjBL model was selected because it is capable of encouraging students to be active, creative, and think critically through contextual and meaningful project-based activities.The research method used was a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. The population in this study consisted of all students in Class VIII of SMP Negeri 3 Rantau Utara, with the sample selected using the random sampling technique. The experimental class received instruction using the PjBL model, while the control class received learning using conventional methods. The instrument used was a learning outcome test in the form of multiple-choice questions that had been tested for validity and reliability.The results of the study indicate that there is an effect of implementing the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model on students' learning outcomes regarding cell material. The average learning outcome score for students using the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model in the experimental class was 83.39, whereas the average score for students in the control class using conventional learning methods was 67.14. Furthermore, the hypothesis test conducted using the t-test obtained a t-table value of 2.005. Based on the hypothesis testing criteria, H₀ was rejected and Hₐ was accepted.
