Abstract

This study aims to: (1) determine the effect of the principal’s leadership style on the improvement of education quality in Cluster 2 of Bilah Hulu District, (2) determine the effect of school committee support on the improvement of education quality in Cluster 2 of Bilah Hulu District, and (3) analyze the simultaneous influence of the principal’s leadership style and school committee support on the improvement of education quality in Cluster 2 of Bilah Hulu District. Improving the quality of education is not only influenced by internal school factors but also by effective leadership and external support such as the school committee, which represents community participation in the implementation of education. This study uses a quantitative approach with an ex-post facto research design. The population in this study consisted of all elementary school teachers in Cluster 2 of Bilah Hulu District, Labuhanbatu Regency, totaling 168 teachers. The research sample was taken as 30% of the population using Arikunto’s guideline, resulting in 50 respondents selected proportionally from each school. Data collection techniques included questionnaires using a Likert scale, observation, and documentation. The research instruments were tested for validity and reliability using Pearson Product Moment correlation and Cronbach’s Alpha. Data analysis techniques included descriptive statistics, correlation tests, simple linear regression analysis, partial tests (t test), and multiple linear regression analysis to determine the simultaneous influence among variables using the SPSS program. The results of the study indicate that: (1) the principal’s leadership style has a positive and significant effect on improving the quality of education in Cluster 2 of Bilah Hulu District with a t-count value of 6.070 which is greater than the t-table value of 1.675 and a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05; (2) school committee support has a positive and significant effect on improving the quality of education with a t-count value of 2.086 which is greater than the t-table value of 1.675 and a significance value of 0.042 < 0.05; and (3) the principal’s leadership style and school committee support simultaneously influence the improvement of education quality with a coefficient of determination (R Square) value of 0.722. This indicates that these two variables are able to explain 72.2% of the variation in the improvement of education quality, while the remaining 27.8% is influenced by other factors outside the variables examined in this study. Thus, it can be concluded that an effective principal’s leadership style and optimal school committee support play an important role in improving the quality of education in elementary schools. Keywords : Leadership Style, Principal, Education Quality. ================================================================================== Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) mengetahui pengaruh gaya kepemimpinan kepala sekolah terhadap peningkatan mutu pendidikan di Gugus 2 Kecamatan Bilah Hulu, (2) mengetahui pengaruh dukungan komite sekolah terhadap peningkatan mutu pendidikan di Gugus 2 Kecamatan Bilah Hulu, dan (3) menganalisis pengaruh gaya kepemimpinan kepala sekolah dan dukungan komite sekolah secara simultan terhadap peningkatan mutu pendidikan di Gugus 2 Kecamatan Bilah Hulu. Peningkatan mutu pendidikan tidak hanya dipengaruhi oleh faktor internal sekolah, tetapi juga oleh kepemimpinan yang efektif serta dukungan dari pihak eksternal seperti komite sekolah sebagai representasi partisipasi masyarakat dalam penyelenggaraan pendidikan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian ex post facto. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh guru Sekolah Dasar di Gugus 2 Kecamatan Bilah Hulu Kabupaten Labuhanbatu yang berjumlah 168 orang. Sampel penelitian diambil sebesar 30% dari populasi dengan menggunakan pedoman Arikunto, sehingga diperoleh 50 responden yang dipilih secara proporsional dari setiap sekolah. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner dengan skala Likert, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Instrumen penelitian terlebih dahulu diuji validitas dan reliabilitasnya menggunakan korelasi Pearson Product Moment dan Alpha Cronbach. Teknik analisis data menggunakan statistik deskriptif, uji korelasi, analisis regresi linear sederhana, uji parsial (uji t), serta analisis regresi linear berganda untuk melihat pengaruh simultan antar variabel dengan bantuan program SPSS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) gaya kepemimpinan kepala sekolah berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap peningkatan mutu pendidikan di Gugus 2 Kecamatan Bilah Hulu dengan nilai t hitung sebesar 6,070 lebih besar dari t tabel 1,675 dan nilai signifikansi 0,000 < 0,05; (2) dukungan komite sekolah berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap peningkatan mutu pendidikan dengan nilai t hitung sebesar 2,086 lebih besar dari t tabel 1,675 dan nilai signifikansi 0,042 < 0,05; dan (3) gaya kepemimpinan kepala sekolah dan dukungan komite sekolah secara simultan berpengaruh terhadap peningkatan mutu pendidikan dengan nilai koefisien determinasi (R Square) sebesar 0,722. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa kedua variabel tersebut mampu menjelaskan 72,2% variasi peningkatan mutu pendidikan, sedangkan sisanya sebesar 27,8% dipengaruhi oleh faktor lain di luar variabel yang diteliti. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa gaya kepemimpinan kepala sekolah yang efektif serta dukungan komite sekolah yang optimal memiliki peran penting dalam meningkatkan mutu pendidikan di sekolah dasar.
