Abstract

Teacher-centered biology instruction often limits student engagement and contributes to low learning outcomes. This study aimed to analyze the effect of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on the learning outcomes of Grade XI students in Cell Biology at MAS Pondok Pesantren Syariful Hidayah Batang Gogar. The study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 40 students from two classes selected through cluster random sampling. Class XI-1 served as the experimental group, while Class XI-4 served as the control group. Data were collected using a valid and reliable multiple-choice achievement test and analyzed through normality, homogeneity, and hypothesis tests using SPSS version 25. The results showed that the experimental group obtained a higher mean posttest score (78.50) than the control group (50.40). The hypothesis test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating that the PBL model had a significant positive effect on students’ learning outcomes. Active participation in problem identification, investigation, discussion, information analysis, and solution presentation supported deeper conceptual understanding. Therefore, PBL is an effective instructional alternative for improving biology learning outcomes and fostering critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Keywords: Problem Based Learning (PBL); Learning Outcomes; Cell Biology; Biology Learning and Islamic Senior High School ============================================================================================= Pembelajaran biologi yang berpusat pada guru sering kali membatasi keterlibatan siswa dan berkontribusi terhadap rendahnya hasil belajar.
