Abstract
Fertilization is a crucial factor in oil palm cultivation, and cost efficiency is a key consideration for large-scale operations. The research was conducted on a 47-hectare plot with 6,500 trees, comparing the productivity and costs of both methods. The results showed that the EMDEK method outperformed manual fertilization in terms of speed and efficiency. EMDEK was able to fertilize 1 hectare in approximately 30 minutes, while the manual method required around 92 minutes. In terms of cost, EMDEK incurred a lower cost of IDR 8,629 per tree compared to IDR 8,769 per tree for manual fertilization. In addition, a questionnaire revealed that 71% of respondents preferred the EMDEK method due to its faster performance and reduced labor requirements. In conclusion, EMDEK-based fertilization is proven to be more effective and efficient in terms of both time and cost, and it is well-received by field workers. Therefore, this method is recommended for broader adoption in oil palm fertilization activities. Keywords: EMDEK, Manual Fertilization, Oil Palm, Cost-effectiveness, Work Productivity
